LONDON: Pakistan remains the “biggest source of instability” for Afghanistan, a London-based think tank claimed on Tuesday.

The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) said Pakistan had become the “key battleground” for Al Qaeda-linked fighters who fled Afghanistan in 2001, AFP reported. “It is clear that Pakistan has become the key battleground in Al Qaeda’s efforts to establish a base area to replace the one lost in Afghanistan,” it said in its annual report.

However, the IISS noted Pakistan’s success to drive out the Taliban from the country’s northeast, saying this had negated worries of the country’s nuclear arsenal falling into the hands of extremists, APP added. agencies
