Research Programme

The IISS research programme is committed to addressing the global security challenges of the 21st Century.  A comprehensive research programme under the Institute’s Director of Studies, covers these challenges and responds to them both thematically and regionally. 

 

 

As an independent, objective, international research institution, IISS is committed to advancing the wider understanding of critical security issues and their potential trends or resolution.  Research is manifested in written publications, online databases, conferences, lectures, and working groups.

Strategic Survey is the annual review of world affairs from the International Institute for Strategic Studies. It is an invaluable tool for interpreting worldwide strategic developments. Since 1966, it has provided the essential one-volume analysis of the year’s key events in international relations for government policy makers, journalists, business leaders and academics.

 

Strategic Survey 2008 will be launched on Thursday 18 September 2008 at 10:30am.

European Military Capabilities: Building Armed Forces for Modern Operations

 

The role of the armed forces of European countries has changed since the Cold War. This IISS Strategic Dossier analyses these trends and considers new ways to assess the military capabilities that European nations will need to address future threats to their security.

 

This Strategic Dossier was launched on 9 July 2008
