 Programme Manager and Research Associate for the Transatlantic Dialogue on Climate Change and Security

 

Main Responsibilities: The main goal of this project will be to establish a regular forum in which policy-makers within the Transatlantic community can consider the security implications of climate change. The Programme Manager is a member of the staff of the IISS Washington, DC office but reports to the Director for Transnational Threats and Political Risk, based in London.

 

  • Organizing and managing two major conferences in London and Washington, DC respectively, with a series of three workshops in between.

  • Drafting and publishing a short report based on the key recommendations from these events.

  • Creating a concise Agenda of items upon which Transatlantic leaders should focus their efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change, including its effects on international security.

  • Maintaining and organizing a website, blog, and listserv to promote and expand the Transatlantic Dialogue on Climate Change and Security.

 

Background: Prior to joining the IISS, Andrew Holland worked as legislative staff in the U.S. Congress.  For three years, he worked on the staff of U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel of Nebraska as a Legislative Assistant, where his issues of concentration included Climate Change, Energy, Transportation, and the Environment.  Before moving to the Senate, Andrew worked in the House of Representatives for the Subcommittee on Trade of the House Ways and Means Committee and for Congresswoman Marge Roukema of New Jersey.  Andrew earned a Master’s Degree in International Strategy and Economics from the University of St. Andrew’s in 2005.  He holds a Bachelor’s degree in History and Economics from Wake Forest University.
