Main Responsibilities: Works with the executive director of The IISS-US to:

  • develop the events programme in the Washington, DC office.
  • devise and successfully implement strategies to secure sponsorships and donations, as well as funding to support research programmes.
  • generate participation for IISS international conferences such as the annual Global Strategic Review (GSR).
  • assist with liaison functions for U.S. government delegations participating in IISS Regional Security Summits in Singapore and Bahrain.
  • promote IISS journals, books, and databases.
  • Overall management for the operations of the Washington, DC office, including coordination of the finance, administration, and IT needs, and manages the intern programme.

 

Background: Prior to joining The IISS, Francesco Barbacci worked at the Council on Foreign Relations. As an assistant director in the New York Meetings department, he organised roundtables, panel discussions, symposia, conferences, and high-level single-speaker events on a wide range of topics relating to international affairs. He also worked as the assistant director of the Center for Universal Education in the Council’s DC office. Prior to working at the Council, he spent six months as an intern in the NGO Section of the Department for Public Information at the United Nations. Francesco has also worked as an event fundraiser for several health charities in the NY and DC areas. He holds a Master’s degree in politics from The University of Edinburgh and a Master’s degree in development studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London.
