On Tuesday 7 October 2008, Dr Dino Patti Djalal (Special Staff of the President for International Affairs and Presidential Spokesperson, Office of the President of Indonesia) delivered a special address to guests of the Institute on “‘Transforming Indonesia: Implications For The Region And The World”. Organised by IISS-Asia, the event was held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Singapore.

 

Dr Dino Patti Djalal is Special Staff of the President for International Affairs and Spokesperson for the President of Indonesia. Prior to this, Dr Djalal was Director for North and Central America at the Department of Foreign Affairs. He joined the Department of Foreign Affairs in 1987 and in 1990 was appointed assistant to the Director General for Political Affairs. In 1993, he was posted to the Indonesian Embassy in London as staff and then promoted to deputy head of the political department. In 1998, Dr Djalal returned to Indonesia to become Head of the Decolonization section of the Directorate for International Organizations. In mid-1999, he was assigned as the Indonesia government spokesperson for East Timor for 4 months to assist UNAMET in organising a referendum in that area. In August 2000, he was sent to the Indonesian Embassy as head of the political department. In April 2002, Dr Djalal returned to Jakarta to become Director of North and Central America, Department of Foreign Affairs.
